Abstract:
Pre-harvest retting of flax with glyphosate applied at the mid-point of flowering depends on uniform desiccation of the entire stem and is difficult to achieve during a dry season. As in dew-retting, stand-retting of the desiccated flax in the field relies on microorganisms and is dependent on the vagaries of the weather. The data on the role of microbial enzymes, screening of flax cultivars, fibre quality and upgrading of coarse fibres are presented and discussed. Author’s Abstract.
